I do love a visit to Hay! Certainly takes a full day's meandering to do it justice. Last time I was there and queuing peacefully in the main car park to pay, gentle breeze blowing, birds a-twittering, the entire queue jumped when a lady a few behind suddenly barked, "BUTTER!" before remarking to her companion that 'alas, she had run out at their accommodation.' She also verbally noted the need to buy 'writing implements', before commenting that while she liked Hay, there were just far too many bookshops for her liking. I often think of her and how disappointed she was to find a whole town teeming with bookshops! To me, it's paradise!

I'm sure the lady wouldn't be amused to know that I now think of her every time I think of lovely Hay! 😁 Glad you had a wonderful day there!

Gosh, I’ve not heard of someone going to Hay and being disappointed by the number of bookshops before!

I love Hay ♥️ As well as the wonderful bookshops there are some fabulous quirky shops like the Old Electric, junk shops and the gorgeous stationery shop. Enjoy, Tanya!

Honestly you’d be in heaven. Maybe we need to organise a Substack get together in Hay one day 🤩🙏🤞
