I’m reading the Greek classics that have been retold from the female’s point of view. They’d be perfect. Circe by Madeline Miller, Pandora by Susan Stokes Chapman. There’s quite a few others out there, too! Enjoy. It looks idyllic.✨
I also read Charlotte Higgins' Greek retellings last year, though found it quite an intense book; brutal at times (such is the way of the Greek gods!). Preferred the more leisurely Travels with Epicurus (https://laurenkatepowell.substack.com/p/meanderings-with-mamma-mia-vibes) but that may fall into self-help category you're trying to avoid for this trip...
Either way, I'm sure you'll have a lovely time and won't regret a departure from the Welsh coastline, just this once 😉 As Trudi says - it looks idyllic!
Ooh what a fabulous list of recommendations Lauren. Thanks so much 🙏 I’m going to read your article this afternoon. You’ll be the first to hear if Wales has a competitor 😂🏴
Ooh I like the sound of this one Gill. I’ve just realised that used books are selling quite cheaply on the app Vinted. It is plus postage but I do love to recycle books 📚
Not sure if this is allowed, but my memoir Lifting Off: A Life in Freefall has been doing very well this summer as a 'holiday read'. It's about my 12 years as cabin crew and how I woke up a stranger in my own life. Enjoy your break and welcome to the Golden Decade! Karen
Exciting news about the holiday! Victoria Hislop writes a lot about Greece, and I have enjoyed her novels. There is also the classic Captain Corelli's Mandolin if you haven't read it.
Yes, to Kefalonia many moons ago, loved it. More recently to Zante, on a quiet piece of the coast, great holiday, beautiful island away from all the party towns.
How about the Pat Barker books retelling the story of Troy? I think there are two so far with another to be released shortly (which, of course, I have just had to pre-order as I enjoyed the first two so much).

Thanks so much for the recommendations Trudi 🙏 I think I’ll need to take an extra bag just for books 😂
I can second that Circe would be a great read!! (obligatory beach pic here, alongside The Fratricides by Nikos Kazantzakis, from a Greek trip back in 2019 - https://laurenkatepowell.substack.com/p/musings-on-book-selections)

Haha sounds good 😉 enjoy! 🇬🇷
Oh pleeeeease read Ithaca by Claire North - she brings a Greek myth to life beautifully. I read it in a day while on holiday on the island 😍
