My birthday month August was an exquisite month as I embraced my 49th chapter, I also found wisdom and companionship within the pages of countless books. Â I think it was the month I read most books. I loved immersing myself in a different world, mesmerised by stories with a thirst for learning.
In the pursuit of devouring as many books as I could, I discovered a metaphor for life - a profound parallel between the pages I flipped and the moments that unfolded. Just as I read each book, each one carrying its own narrative, just like each passing day of being 49. Each story held its own unique adventures and perspectives which echoed the diverse interest I have in life. I think I change my mind like the wind some days, hence my eclectic book selection.
Within my random selection of books, I found reflections of my own journey - themes of resilience, growth and a quest for understanding. I guess like the chapters in a book, each day unfolded, giving me a chance for new discovery and learning. My metaphor was vivid - a reminder that life, like a well written book, invited me to immerse myself in its richness. I was turning the pages of books, like I was turning over my days and nights. A continuous journey of transformation. Some sad, some happy and some quite extraordinary experiences.Â
August reminded me that books complete me. If only I devoured books as a child, as much as I crave reading them today.  I have many years of reading to catch up with.  What about you? Have books found you later on in life?  I’m intrigued.  I have no regrets about my lack of interest in books as a child, as I know I was either dancing in the street or horse riding across the countryside. I was a child who needed to be constantly on the move, so sitting still with a book was never going to be a passion of mine.  Although if audio books were a thing back in the 80’s, I think I’d have consumed 100’s of books whilst in the saddle.  If only I could turn back time.
Until the next time
Take care and stay safe xx
Because I love journaling so much and sharing it with you, here are a few therapeutic prompts for your Wednesday…
1. Write about a book that has been a source of comfort or refuge for you. Â How did it impact your mood or mindset?
2. Reflect on the pleasure of getting lost in a book. Â How does immersing yourself in a story contribute to your happiness?
3. Outline intentions for your future reading endeavours that align with your wellbeing gaols for 2024. How do you plan to incorporate raiding into your selfceare routine?
These prompts aim to delve into the therapeutic aspects of reading, exploring the emotional connection and self discovery that can arise from the simple act of enjoying a good book. Â I hope you have a couple of good ones on your Christmas book wish list.
Thanks for sharing - I'm enjoying your brief reflections this month, and the journaling prompts (even if I'm not finding much time to journal!).
I read the Ikigai book a few years ago and was totally sold on the concept - would be great if it was more widespread. 🌸
I've not yet Women Who Run With Wolves but a friend attended a yoga/women's healing type retreat based on the book last year and sounded amazing!
Wondering what your thoughts are on You are a Badass? I've seen the cover pop up in lots of places but it initially struck me as a bit "girlboss-y" - but maybe not? 😊
