Awww I could write for days about my adventures with the ridgebacks. I started The Ridgeback Diaries as they were pandemic puppies and I wanted to document all the trails and tribulations we went through and still go through. Almost as a message to put people off buying big dogs, especially if they didn’t have previous experience of training and managing big breeds. Far too many dogs end up on the streets or in dog homes due to owners not doing their due diligence 🥲
That is sad that dogs suffer for the stupidity of people.
Sometimes I wonder if I’d ever want to try a bigger dog though. Just because I think it would feel more being protected when hiking and camping. When I take my little dogs I have noticed that “the wild” is attracted to them as a one-bite meal. I find myself protecting rather than being protected. Plus my dogs want nothing to do with water and I want a dog who likes to play in rivers either me. But that comes with all the other big dog aspects.
This really add me chuckle. I know exactly what you mean. My 2 labs are the most loving lively mad pair you could meet, throw a french bulldog into the mix and it’s home for Christmas all the way. Add Mildred’s food obsession added to kidney disease and being the most adept thief. Alongside mince pies, Christmas cake and all the other things with dried vine fruit and it’s not worth the risk. A trip to the Royal Veterinary College one year sealed her stay at home sentence. They don’t mind and it gives me an excuse to be the Christmas Grinch.

Love reading dog posts. So many talk about cats. lol We have small dogs and have similar problems. Cannot imagine dealing with big ones.
