Lesson of the day… DO NOT hold onto rope leads with 2 ridgebacks attached whilst they chase a bloody cat down the road!!
I am laughing now.
2 hours ago, not so much.
In my humble opinion, the cat actually wanted to cause trouble, it knew I had two goofballs dogs in the boot of my car, ready to charge through the fields, hoping for a chase.
I placed the leads around the dogs, trying at the same time to gently move the cat on its way, it refused to budge. By this time, the hounds had clocked the cat like a scene out of ‘Tom & Jerry’, and they were off. Cat shot off down the street, whilst the ridgebacks powered on after it, whilst idiot me is still holding onto their damn leads.
WHY?! Why did I think it was a good idea to stay attached to the leads, attached to the dogs chasing a smart arse cat round the back of a house, whilst causing all sorts of chaos in someone’s garden??
I should have let the leads go!
The cat had a genius idea to climb up the tree. The dogs were a little confused and defeated, yet delighted by the fact they found left over chicken carcass covered in bin juice. Whilst I’m trying to relieve the shooting pain in my shredded fingers, I’m actually glad no furry creature lost its life during this mornings little drama.
I guess I have to see the funny side to this dog/cat scenario, even though at the time, the feeling of RAGE was off the scale. I keep writing about this, but life has a way of teaching me a lesson when I least expect it. Maybe it’s a sign telling me to ‘let go of the lead in life’, especially when trying to control things beyond my grasp. Lesson well and truly learnt this morning!
Sure I was mad at the ridgebacks of their little escapade, but in retrospect, I can’t help but chuckle. Honestly you would have laughed out loud watching this little blonde lady being dragged at a speed through the streets by her hounds. It’s a reminder that sometimes, despite our best efforts, we can’t control every twist and turn along our journey. It’s about trusting that, just like my ridgebacks eventually gave up the chase and returned, things will work out ok in the end.
I’m off to pour myself a rather large iced coffee, I actually need a rather strong G&T!
Until the next time
Take care & stay safe. xx
You painted a very entertaining picture there Tanya, I was chuckling reading it … However, I do hope your hands are OK! I know too well what rope-burn pains and pulled shoulders feel like after your over-energetic dog takes you by surprise! Although not so much for me any more with a 13-year-old old lady 🐶
I too have been thinking a lot about 'control' lately! And I love your new-found mantra - "let go of the lead" - I'm going to remember this! When things are beyond our control it is futile to continue to try and grasp hold of it - so much wasted energy!
Enjoy your coffee/G&T 😉
Love this Lesson Tanya, I could also do with remembering that we can't control everything and things will work out in the end. I hope your hand has recovered and the iced coffee helped! It's funny how life can send us lessons in unusual ways like this. I learned a similarly important lesson from a flip-flop that got swept off my foot by the waves on holiday. I didn't chase after it and reflecting on it I ended up learning a lot about vulnerability. I wrote a substack post about it called "chase the flip flop", if you're interested to read. x
