Hi Tanya. I felt I read this post at the right time in my life. After the lockdown I realised I needed a change in my life, and to incorporate more creativity into my life. I promised myself I'd do The Artist's Way programme this summer, which I've started but not enjoying at all. I'm only on week 2 but finding it hard to be consistent with my morning pages and the artist date. What was it like for you?

Hi Marta

Ah thanks for connecting and sharing your story. I have spoken to so many people that have started TAW but come to a crossroads around week 2-4.

My top tips include

- work out how much time you have to spare each day to focus on you, even if it’s 5-10 minutes a day

- spend a bit of time to think about which activity you really get excited about… is it drawing, writing, photography, journaling, sewing??

- then dedicate the amount of time you have to the activity you love for one week and see how you feel. Document if you managed to do the activity each day. If so describe how you felt. If not document why you didn’t find the time. What distractions were there?

- it’s important that you are totally honest with what your passionate about on a creative level and lean into it

- re read the pages you’ve gone through and try just one of the tasks Julia recommends

- don’t be so hard on yourself

- little steps to get you into a routine even if it’s 10mins a day

For example I journal every day without fail. It’s my type of morning pages. But I don’t write always in the morning and I certainly don’t manage 3 full pages of free writing

- I thrive off journaling! From the notes I make, ideas I brainstorm, the planning, the ‘to don’t lists’ and on occasion the rage on the page when I’m struggling with the business of life help me balance my life.

- I’m on day 510 since reading the artists way. It’s my bible and I love it

Be kind to yourself

Your creativity is waiting to burst out of you, so allow yourself to explore a creative journey for you just for you

Best of luck with it all

Tanya

Yes I am a well known daydreamer! Even at school I got pulled up from the teachers continually to stop daydreaming... 😶‍🌫️ I am procrastinating right now as I should be finishing off an assignment that is due in tomorrow for my OU course, and as you can see, I’m on here instead! 🙈😂🤣

Ah the joy of day dreaming. I host retreats by the coast in Wales and encourage the guests to daydream whilst they sit with a sea view. Now I need to practise what I preach. What is your course about?
