Today, I cannot help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude.  I feel blessed by what I’ve embraced this morning.  My photos speak a 1000 words.  I wanted to share a glimpse of the beautiful start to my day, a moment that filled my soul with warmth even in the midst of the freezing temperature. Â
I really wasn’t in the mood to walk the ridgebacks at 7am this morning.  It was dark, my car was frozen over and I had a slight headache.  Thank goodness I didn’t listen to my inner critic, who was persuading me to stay under the duvet and walk later in the day.
There wasn’t a soul about as I navigated the path down to the shoreline.  Rushing from the car to the beach, it can feel quite eery when it’s pitch black with only a flickering street lamp as a guide. Although I’m not sure anyone would be tempted to approach me with my ridgebacks striding either side of my heels, a total of 75kilo of sheer muscle power protecting me.
Within seconds, as I turned the corner to face the bay, the first light kissed the horizon, painting the sky with hues of pink and orange. Â I was in awe. Â It was a breathtaking view. Â It was as though someone had spilt a glass of peach melba over the early morning sky. It really was a view to share with a lover. In the distance I could see a young couple sitting on a park bench, sharing a flask of coffee, cuddling for warmth whilst they took in the same mesmerising sunrise. I had to take a photo of the silhouetted couple, but before I knew it, the ridgebacks were snuggling up to them, thank goodness there were no croissants they could steal.
Further down the bay, I couldn’t help but marvel at the sea swimmers, they must have been freezing their tits off.  I captured their squeals and giggles as they splashed around trying to warm up their icy bodies.  During lockdown I used to join my local sea swimming club 'The Dawnstalkers', it’s such a brilliant community experience.  Everyone would gather, chatting and sharing stories to find solace and therapy in the cold embrace of the ocean.  Today I could feel that the sea swimmers courage resonated with the essence of seizing the day, I definitely left the bay thinking about my favourite moto - Carpe Diem!
Honestly, walking the ridgebacks, watching the sun rise and taking a moment to ‘pause for thought’ has to be one of THE best starts I’ve experienced this January. It was a gift that really did reaffirm life’s precious moments. I feel totally blessed today.
Until the next time
Take care and stay safe xx
I loved this and can very much relate! Like you, I much prefer going out for a good walk early, alone (would love a dog, but I can't have one at the moment), when hardly a soul is around except seagulls and the odd fisherman. The silence is conducive to a strong connection with nature that heals deeply like nothing else. It sets me up for the day and makes me grateful to be alive.
What a beautiful way to start the week. I wish I lived near the sea xx
