It’s oh so quiet here. Nobody in my household is rushing to walk the dogs. Why? I’m not sure. It’s a very rare situation, even the dogs are snoozing. I’m not going to question it, I’m happy sitting here quietly with my journal and a cup of coffee.
As morning broke, I was pondering over my journaling journey. Asking myself why I rage on a page. Wondering why it's so important to me that I share my mission about the benefits of writing it all down. Why do I have this urge to help midlife women channel their emotions through my unique practice of therapeutic journaling? It’s so deep rooted. I just know it’s become my calling, as woo woo as that all sounds, I can’t do anything else but share how life changing ‘rage on a page’ can be.
My journey with journaling isn’t just a pandemic born passion, it stretches back through a maze of trials, errors and revelations long before the days of lockdown. My quest to harness the power of therapeutic journaling led me through so many different techniques, each promising solace but falling short of reaching the depths I sought. I found myself wrestling with my journal, breaking the norms, discarding conventional practices - yes, even the revered ‘morning pages’ by the great Julia Cameron.
Don’t get me wrong, I acknowledge the transformational impact that morning pages have brought to countless lives. But like many women navigating the complexities of life, my mornings weren’t always the canvas for three pages of unrestrained writing. Yet through the battles within these constraints, I unearthed a solution - a journaling practice that delves deeper, transcends time constraints and demands mere moments each day.
My passion isn’t to sermonise or dictate, but to share.
To illuminate the transformations brewing within untold stories.
Therapeutic journaling became my guiding light, my North Star, a beacon of resilience and self-discovery within the chaos of life. And now it’s my mission to extend this torch, hopefully allowing countless women to find as much solace, healing and expression as I have experienced.

Morning quiet is a treasure! Quiet time to recharge my introvert self is probably more important than journaling.
I tend to journal off and on. Haven’t done it in a little while. I’m most effective though when I write digitally. I don’t have to have my notebook with me and can pick up my OneNotes anywhere from any computer and get it done. Working full time leaves me little time for other stuff each day.
I completely agree with you Tanya, that journaling can be so transformative and life-changing!
In a completely random coincidence - I have spent time just this morning prepping an upcoming post sharing my story with journaling - from reflective journaling at uni, to free-writing, to daily practice and a blog!
So, I discovered 'reflective journaling', during my first year of uni.
I used it to reflect on the content of our lectures, and connect it to my individual thoughts and experiences.
I soon became utterly fascinated by what was coming out – It was a way that I could release things from my subconscious!
I had profound realisations about past experiences…
It helped me to acknowledge and address current situations.
It’s allowed me to release tears of suppression…
And laugh about comical recollections.
It’s enabled me to relate mental health theory to my own, personal experiences, but most importantly, it’s encouraged me to recognise and release internal thoughts and emotions, which in turn leads to better psychological wellbeing.
I believe you're going to change people's lives with your work Tanya! From the courses I've undertaken with you, I have solidified my commitment to journaling, and learnt so many new things about this incredible tool!
