Ah good old Welsh weather - unpredictable, relentless and often soaked in raindrops. Another day to get drenched while I walk the ridgebacks along the coastal path. How did your dog walk go? As winter settles in here, the rhythm of the rain becomes a familiar soundtrack, and one I’m starting to tire of, but I’m also trying my best to embrace.
As my Dad would say, it’s all about having the appropriate wet weather gear. He’s so right, and I do have the correct gear, my issue is having to wash down and dry two rather mischievous ridgebacks for the tenth day on the trot! Ridgebacks actually hate the rain. Have you ever seen a dog who is dying to take a pee, shy away from going outside just because it’s raining. Welcome to the Rhodesian Ridgebacks.
I do make myself laugh though, the hounds are adorable, the best companions ever, and it’s because of them I get to experience the stunning Welsh coastline whatever the weather. Which I am grateful for. I guess I need to quit my ‘jibber jabber’ about the rain and appreciate the fact I live in a beautiful country, just a rather wet country.
If I was brutally honest, the rain has always soothed my soul. It both lulls and invigorates my senses. What about you, do you love or loathe the rain?
Usually I relish these rainy days - a good excuse, once the dog walk is all done and dusted, to plan more ease retreats or lose myself in my book. But today, amidst the pitter patter, a familiar yearning surfaces. I am craving blue skies and sunshine. I know across the UK yesterday, some of you were lucky enough to wake up to the gentle warmth of Vitamin D or your face. Please send your sunny vibes over to me, as dark clouds are settling in for the day here in Cardiff.
What is a girl to do eh?
It’s an odd sensation, this longing for something outside the usual comfort zone. The rain, while comforting, seems to cast a blue hue upon my day. Yet, in embracing the relentless downpour, there’s an opportunity to explore and seek solace in the comforting space of therapeutic journaling.
I’m in need a few journaling prompts to help put a spring in my step, you’re very welcome to join me if you’re in the journaling mood…
Rainy Day Musings - describe your emotional response to rainy days. How do they typically affect your mood and energy levels?
Chasing Sunshine - write about a time or place where you felt invigorated by sunlight. Describe the sensations and the emotions it evokes.
Finding Comfort Indoors - list 5 things you appreciate about hunkering down indoors during rainy weather. How do these activities bring you solace?
These prompts are just what I need today. I hope the sun is shining over you wherever you may be and if not, just know you’re not alone, as I’m feeling all your rainy day emotions too.
Until the next time
Take care and stay safe xx
Oh Tanya, I so feel you today...it's a soggy west Wales here too! I'm in my cosy home office with my blanket over my lap sipping on a frothy coffee and have a snoozing spaniel beside me, which is rather lovely if I'm honest. I'm learning to love the rain but must admit I prefer being indoors and listening to it with a good book in hand and my favourite candle burning than being outside stomping around in it or running errands. I love the journaling prompts in your piece so going to give them a go, thank you for those. Sending cosy rainy day vibes and standing in solidarity with a fellow welsh weather warrior! Xx
Wish I could send you sunny vibes Tanya, but we are waiting for Storm Henck to make an entrance & the river is really swollen and brown. The garden is actually squelching. Mildred hates the rain too but would jump in the river. Xx
