Dear Friend
How are you today? I’m feeling rather wonderful. I know why. It’s because I’ve decided to add a little sparkle to my Substack this week, thanks to my Substack mentor
For those that tune into my daily musings, you’ll know how much I adore my home country Wales. I was born here and have never left, I probably never will. My heart is set on rewiring (as I’m unlikely to ever retire), spend my elder years by the ocean in a West Wales village, in a small cottage by the sea. I connected with
yesterday and I’m fascinated by her story, her courage and commitment to adventure around Europe alone in her mid fifties. I mentioned that if she ever found herself traveling through Wales, that I would happily be her South Wales tour guide. Our first stop would be afternoon tea at one of my friends 11th Century enchanted castles, hidden in the Vale of Glamorgan. Yes I know, I actually have a friend who owns a castle. So after connecting with Anne about Wales, it got me thinking, that maybe I should showcase my favourite places to visit, from all four regions of Wales.
So welcome to my “Visit Wales with Ease” series, a heartfelt guide to the land of mystic dragons, Dylan Thomas and breathtaking landscapes. As a proud Welsh woman, born in the rugged north and now residing in the vibrant south, I’m thrilled to take you on a journey through four distinct regions of Wales. Each part of this series will unveil some of my secret locations and must-see wonders of my beloved homeland.
This series will unfold over the week in four captivating instalments:
1. North Wales, where legends begins and where I was born, amidst the towering peaks of Snowdonia and along some of the most dramatic coastlines in the world. This region is filled with ancient castles which stand guard over valleys steeped in myth and legend.
2. Magical Mid Wales, I’ll take you into the heart of Wales, where rolling hills, serene lakes and charming market towns offer a glimpse into the country’s delicate soul.
3. Stunning South Wales, is where our journey will continue, to my current home, where bustling cities like Cardiff and Swansea blend seamlessly with picturesque coastal surf villages and the wild beauty of the Brecon Beacons. I’m hosting a weekend retreat here with
in November, just in case you’d like to join us.4. West Wales, my favourite coastal paradise which stole my heart, is where we’ll explore the rugged coastline of Pembrokeshire. I’ll guide you down quaint fishing villages and along golden sandy beaches that stretch as far as the eye can see.
In each part (starting this Tuesday through to Friday), I’ll share my personal recommendations for…
- Places to Visit: From iconic landmarks to off the beaten path gems
- Where to Eat, Sleep and Drink: Cosy bed and breakfasts, traditional pubs and restaurants, beach shacks all serving the finest Welsh cuisine.
- Secret Journaling Spots: Tranquil locations where you can find time to reflect and write, surrounded by Wales’ natural beauty.
As a 49 year old local, I’ve discovered some real beauties that would put Wales truly on the global map of the “Top 10 Places To Visit Before You Die”. You’ll be in good company while I guide you beyond the tourist trails to experience the true essence of Wales.
Let me know if there is anywhere specific in Wales you’d like more information about, I love a little challenge.
You might be seeking adventure, relaxation or inspiration, I guarantee you that Wales offers it all and more. You’ll never meet a warmer community - Welsh people are full of character, upbeat conversation, and are known to be some of the best storytellers around. They are rich in culture, charisma and cheekiness and would love to tell a tale or two, if you don’t mind perching up for an hour or so.
So pack your bags, bring your journal and join me on this Wales odyssey. Let’s discover the wonders of Wales together… with ease. Croeso I Gymru - Welcome to Wales!
Until the next time
Take care and stay safe xx

Oh, what perfect timing! I arrive in Wales in August, and will be looking for some adventures to have!
If you are able to share any great walks to do with an energetic dog in the area around Rhayader, that would be wonderful!
I'm house-sitting so don't need accommodation, but one or two lovely cafes to work out of for a couple of hours would be nice...I started writing my first book today!
Love this Tanya 😍 we are hoping to holiday in Wales one year, so we’ll be visiting your recommendations 👍🏻😃x
