Last weekend, I had the pleasure of hosting a magical digital detox retreat in a sunning beach house in West Wales. With the sound of the waves and the fresh air wrapping around us, my small group of guests came together to do something quite extraordinary: unplug from their digital devices for the whole weekend. They switched their phones off, left them in their rooms, relieved to be far away from the relentless cycle of notifications, emails and to do lists. And instead, they gave themselves the opportunity to be in the present moment. It was all about rejuvenating the soul.
Our days were a perfect balance of rest and reflection. Guests seated themselves with views of the horizon, breathed in the salty air and allowed themselves to simply “be”. Some of us braced the autumn storms and swam in the ocean, it was cold, but so invigorating. We took long coastal walks where stories flowed as freely as the tides, and huddled around the fire at night, where laughter, poetry and storytelling brought us closer together. Sisterhood at its best!
One of the weekend’s highlights was the therapeutic journalling workshops I hosted - something a few of my guests had never done before. Gently they channeled their emotions onto the page, using words as a way to process their thoughts, pent up emotions, feelings and experiences. The response was incredible. Guests found themselves tapping into corners of their minds they hadn’t visited in years. One guest expressing that the workshop was deeply grounding and empowering.

It became clear that this time away, free from the pressure of constant connectivity, was a much needed balm for the soul. I literally cannot wait to host another retreat like this soon, and invite more of you to experience this level of soulful nourishment.
For those who might not be able to join in person, but are keen to try a digital detox at home, why not use journalling as your springboard? It’s a simple yet powerful way to reconnect with yourself. Here are a few therapeutic journalling prompts for your very own digital detox, even if all you do is an hour of unplugging.
1. What does true rest mean to you?
2. How do you feel when you disconnect from your devices?
3. What is your relationship like with silence?
4. What is the one thing you’ve been avoiding emotionally, and why?
5. When was the last time you felt truly at peace and what contributed to that feeling?
This digital detox retreat was proof that when we slow down and focus on ourselves, even for just a weekend, we uncover layers of peace we didn’t know needed. Here’s to more retreats and moments of self-reflection - whether by the sea or in the quiet of your own home.
