Dear Friend
Wow is it hot enough for you today? The sun is blasting into my garden, so I’ve actually gone back to bed to write in the shade. Not complaining at all, it’s just a tad too hot outside.
One of the benefits of this glorious weather, is that it’s inspired me to write about one of my upcoming retreats. Which I host in the Autumn, my favourite season, especially for a digital detox. Mainly because I love to step away from the digital noise and rediscover the simple joys in life. Don’t you?
Well this is the premise behind my “Digital Detox Weekend Retreat” nestled in a picturesque bay near Pembrokeshire, offering a much needed respite from our tech saturated lives.
Have you ever gone on a digital detox? Have you ever decided to ditch your device for the day? An hour? Hmmm, it’s tough to do, but so worth it!
There are so many benefits from doing so, here are some of the reasons why it should be a priority…
1. Improved mental health - constant connectivity can lead to increased stress and anxiety. If you decide to take a digital detox it will allow your mind to reset, reducing negative effects and promoting overall wellbeing
2. Better sleep - blow light from our screens interferes with our natural sleep cycles. Disconnecting, especially before bedtime, can lead to more restful and rejuvenating sleep.
3. Enhanced real-life connections - without the distraction of our phones, we’re more present in our interactions, which helps foster deeper connections with those around us.
4. Increased productivity - stepping away from the digital distractions can boost focus and creativity, leading to improved productivity when you return to your regular routines.
5. Rediscovery of hobbies - a digital detox creates space to rediscover interests that we may have neglected in favour of screen time. When was the last time you took the whole morning on a Saturday to read your latest new book??
So if you’re thinking, hmmmm, you’d like to lean into the benefits of a digital detox, imagine a gorgeous beach house hidden in a bay, where panoramic sea views replace your usual digital landscape. This is the setting for my October digital detox weekend retreat. Whereby I encourage my guests to literally unplug and embrace the simple pleasures in life.
Here, rest is the top priority!
My guests are encouraged to go back to bed any time of day, indulging in the luxury of unstructured time. This retreat offers a range of soul-nourishing activities that will remind you of life’s simple joys.
Such as…
- sea swimming in the invigorating waters, close to where a waterfall cascades into the ocean.
- mindful walks along the coastline to gorgeous villages with golden sandy beaches.
- daydreaming while gazing at the endless horizon.
- feasting on nutritious, locally sourced produce.
- cosying up on the sofa with your favourite book or magazine.
- journaling from bed, or in the garden, wrapped up in the softest of blankets.
In this serene environment, it’s easy to forget that social media even exists. The constant sea views serve as a natural antidote to digital addiction, reminding us of the vast, real world that exists beyond our screens.
Although I’ve always wanted to capture the stunning views on my phone, there is something quite mesmerising about just sitting with the view without the lens between me and the ocean. On the retreat, I provide all my guests with a disposable camera, which adds a bit of fun and an element of surprise when you’re back home patiently waiting for your camera film to develop.
I created this weekend because I wanted to provide a space to help women reset their relationship with technology. By removing their digital devices from the equation, guests often report feeling more present, more relaxed and more in tune with themselves and their surroundings.
One of the most profound effects of my digital detox retreats is the way it alters our perception of time. Without constantly checking devices, time seems to expand. The minutes seem to stretch into hours filled with meaningful activities and engaging conversations. Honestly, this shift can be truly transformative, helping you reassess your digital habits and create healthier boundaries with your phones, especially once you return home.
Life does exist beyond your screen. Sometimes it takes going to a remote location, to be immersed in the beauty of nature, with a group of likeminded souls for you to really appreciate the important things in life. In doing so, you may find yourself more balanced, more fulfilled and better equipped to handle the demands of your connected life. So do you fancy giving yourself the gift of a digital detox retreat? Your mind, body and soul might just thank you for it. Happy to answer any queries and please don’t hesitate to email me if you’d like to join me in October.
Until the next time
Take care and stay safe xx
