When was the last time you were UNAPOLOGETICALLY YOU?
Quite a revolutionary statement I guess, especially in the whirlwind of today’s norms and expectations. But what does that really mean in a world where conformity often reigns supreme?
Again as I was walking along the sandy shores at break of dawn, I was pondering over what it would take to be unapologetically me. Because I think it’s quite a radical act of self-affirmation. What do you think? Are you able to be unapologetically you?
When I think about being unapologetically me, I think about owning every facet of who I am - the quirks, the complexities, the dreams and the scars without seeking validation or approval from anyone else. Am I unapologetically me? Bloody good question. Please may I phone a friend and get back to you :)
On a more serious note, surely it's about living authentically.
About embracing the truth.
And honouring your values.
Even if they don’t fit into the moulds society has sculpted around us.
Maybe, as I creep closer to the big 5 0, I’m less tolerant of a world that frequently dictates who I should be.
Being unapologetically you challenges the status quo.
Just like Benjamin Zephaniah - bless his soul.
Now there was a man who championed being unapologetically himself.
I think it takes huge courage to embrace your unique journey. To express celebration of your individuality in a sea of conformity, it takes a huge amount of inner strength, grit and determination. I know so, because I’m still working on it myself. Thanks to my journal, it gets easier by the day.
Journal or no journal, if you’re pondering over how to be unapologetically you, I urge you to take a walk by the ocean. Especially, if like me, you feel burdened by a problem or creatively blocked, because today I’m feeling on fire with self expression. I’m in a completely different mood compared to how I felt this time yesterday.
There is something in the air around me today, maybe it’s rage, maybe it’s passion, where I feel SO damn ready to let go of stuff. Ready to walk away from things that aren’t serving me. Walking with confidence to seek out new opportunities. Maybe it’s because 2023 is almost nearing closure. How about you? Do you feel like letting go of stuff that isn’t serving you especially around this time of year?
This isn’t about being reckless or dismissive of other’s feelings. Instead, it’s a compassionate understanding that your self-worth isn’t contingent on meeting others’ expectations. It’s more an invitation to unshackle yourself from the chains of societal pressures and live in alignment with your true values and desires.
In essence, being unapologetically you is a declaration!
It’s an affirmation to your inherent worthiness.
It’s a celebration of your authenticity.
And more than anything, it’s a commitment to embracing the uniqueness that makes you, wonderfully you!
I must confess I was listening to Emma Kok sing “Voila” in the car on the bay back from the beach. If ever there was a song that offers a powerful invitation to be unapologetically you, it’s “Voila”. If you haven’t listened to it, I encourage you to check it out. Simply mesmerising and equally up-lifting.
Until the next time
Take care & stay safe xx
