Dear Friend

How are you feeling today? I do hope you’re well and looking forward to a relaxing weekend. I’m sending you invigorating ocean vibes from my little corner of Welsh paradise.

Before I log off, I wanted to quickly test the video settings here on Substack, hopefully my short film clip uploads and you’ll get to have a quick peak at my ocean view.

This weekend I’m hosting a Digital Detox Retreat nestled in the picturesque bay of Tresaith, not far from Pembrokeshire. My retreat takes place in a stunning 7-bedroom beach house that stands proud on the hill with panoramic sea views. This coastal abode offers the perfect setting for my guests to kick back, relax and unplug for the entire weekend.

I so wish you were here to enjoy…

…this delightful coastal retreat, which provides the ideal environment to disconnect from digital distractions and reconnect with oneself and nature. The combination of breathtaking scenery, comfortable living spaces, and thoughtful amenities creates a perfect backdrop for a digital detox weekend, allowing my guests to truly unwind and rejuvenate in a serene setting.

If you’ve ever wondered what’s included on a digital detox retreat, check this out…

Guests basically come here to relax, share stories, join insightful discussions, try out some of my “Journal with Ease” techniques, feast on delicious and nutritious meals, join me on a coastal walk, and indulge in plenty of rest. I encourage my guests to wake up when they are ready, maybe pop down for a cuppa and then 'go back to bed' to journal, read or fall back to sleep with the sound of the crashing waves, allowing them to naturally reset their natural rhythm.

Guests will learn strategies on how to manage their digital consumption, discover offline activities that bring joy, and develop habits for a more balanced lifestyle. The retreat aims to help them reconnect with themselves and nature, fostering a sense of wellbeing and ease.

If you’d like to join one of my digital detox weekend retreats in 2025, email hello@easeretreats.com and i’ll place your contact details on the waiting list.

In the meantime here are a few therapeutic journalling prompts to help you adopt a digital detox at home…

  1. How does tech make you feel on a day to day basis?

  2. When was the last time you felt truly unplugged? Describe what that experience felt like.

  3. If you could redesign your daily routine to be less dependent on your digital devices, what would that look like? Write down one morning and one evening habit you’d like to adopt that helps you stay grounded.

  4. List 3 personal boundaries you’d like to set around your tech usage. How will these boundaries help you stay more present in your life?

  5. This weekend, try and embrace nature. Describe how being out in nature makes you feel and what you notice about yourself when you go out without your phone.

Try and take a few minutes to write in your journal this weekend. Test yourself to see whether or not you can leave your phone on airplane mode for an hour, take the time to be bored, dare to daydream, read a book off your TBR pile, or go for a walk whatever the weather. The world won’t stop because you decide to ‘pause for thought’ without your phone attached to your hip. Good luck!

“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you” Anne Lamott

About me… I’m Tanya Lynch, a mother, a ridgeback owner and the founder of Ease Retreats.  I love what I do, collaborating with authors and creatives, hosting retreats in beautiful venues across the UK.  I’m also a therapeutic journaling coach and through my program Rage on a Page, I help midlife women channel their emotions into something more positive and creative in less than 60 days. Each Thursday I host an online journaling club called Journal with Ease and it’s free for paid subscribers to attend. If you have any questions about the benefits of therapeutic journaling, please reach out and connect. I’m usually on a beach walking the dogs, hosting retreats or hanging out here on Substack.

The Bibliotherapists
This podcast is a love letter to reading, writing and storytelling, and also Substack, the place where our eyes met across a crowded Zoom room (thanks to some matchmaking by Substack Sparkler Claire Venus and our idea for a show featuring our favourite writers from the platform was born…
As a writing retreats host and therapeutic journalling coach alongside my co-host the self-help evangelist (Toni Jones of The Shelf Help Club), we both spend our lives immersed in words, using them to support ourselves, and others, and we both consider ourselves Bibliotherapists.
