In the realm of therapeutic journaling, the choice of tools often sparks a debate - pen and paper or digital device? As someone deeply entrenched in the world of journaling, I have found myself pondering this question countless times. Personally, I am an ardent advocate for the tactile experience of pen and paper. I have gone through so many fountain pens in my time, a variety of pen nibs, complimented by a selection of inks that span the colours of a rainbow. There is something inherently magical about the scratch of a nib against quality paper and the way the ink flows effortlessly onto the page. There have been times, when I’m in a deep state of journaling flow, that I can literally feel the ink soak into the paper. It’s almost hypnotic. If ever there was a state of mindfulness, this is it.
For me, journaling is not just a daily habit, it’s a ritual, a sacred moment of connection with myself. That’s why I choose to indulge in the exquisite pleasure of using beautiful stationery tools. I’d sacrifice a new hair cut or a meal out, if it meant I could spoil myself with a new journal or writing tool.
Each morning, I eagerly anticipate the feel of my fountain pen gliding across the page. Don’t get me wrong, some days I barely have a sentence to pull together. There are mornings where just one little word gets thrown onto the page. On occasion, the time with my fountain pen is over before it’s even begun. For me, the act of journaling becomes not just a task, but a sensory experience - a change to engage with my thoughts and emotions in a tangible way.
If you’re new to journaling, or you have a love - hate relationship with it, one doesn’t need to be a stationery enthusiast to reap the benefits of journaling. Any notebook and pen will do the job just fine. However, I firmly believe that investing in quality tools can elevate the practice and infuse it with renewed sense of joy and purpose. It’s about finding tools that resonate with you, that inspire you to return to the page day after day with enthusiasm and commitment.
In my own journaling practice, I’ve discovered the perfect companions in my Kaweco Fountain Pen my Yop & Tom Journal and not forgetting my favourite Blackwing Pencils These tools seamlessly complement my journaling journey, serving as trusted allies in my quest for self-discovery and personal growth.
In other news, I’m about to embark on a new adventure with a really stylish fountain pen, a totally new design, created by an artisan pen maker. I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation and excitement for the new journaling discoveries that lie ahead for me and for you. What an exciting collaboration! Twsbi makes my favourite fountain pens for journaling and I just love Ferris Wheel Press ink!
I'm all about the experience too. It's like remembering that it's not just about the destination, it's also about the journey. Fountain pens and nice ink and beautiful papers are, for me, as important as the journaling itself. Right now I'm working on a photo journal where I write about photography, both my own and others.
