Dear Friend
How are you today?
I hope you're staying warm and cosy out of the storm, I was nearly knocked off my feet walking along the coastal path earlier. I certainly feel alive now after embracing the elements!
So last night I read an article in the Independent newspaper, One in Three Workers Suffering Burnout, about the increase of ‘burnout' in NHS staff and it really concerned me. More so, because I’m working closely with a few health practitioners, who have expressed similar concerns about how their own health and wellbeing is being compromised at work.
One GP that I’m thrilled to be working with is
aka “The Rebellious Medic” who has recently joined Substack. Dr Emma has a fascinating story, and because of her own experience with burnout she has propelled herself into launching a new movement called “Rebellious Health”, you can read her recent article here The Tale of Two ForestsLast week, we were chatting about how everyone, not just health practitioners, should be given the opportunity to embrace daily wellbeing rituals, in order to live a happy and fulfilling life. It should be standard and taught in primary and secondary schools. We agreed, that our one and only precious life is there to be enjoyed not spent feeling anxious and depressed and prescribed pills asa quick fix. We discussed at length, if youngsters were educated at a young age on how to take care of their own mental health, as a nation we’d be a lot more equipped to live life to the fullest, with a sense of zest and vitality. Sadly more often than not, the heroes that work in the NHS are seriously starting to suffer mentally and are becoming seriously sick. So something has to change. But where does one start? Trying to change any system in the NHS is like trying to move an oil tanker - very slowly!
I’m trying to do my bit, through one of my therapeutic journaling programs, called the "The Write Prescription" targeted at the health sector, and so far it’s been a game changer for quite a few medics. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed crafting space for health practitioners to explore the healing potential of putting pen to paper. My time has been spent listening to overworked and stressed GP’s, district nurses, oncologists, psychotherapists and midwives, where they have trusted me and given me the opportunity to understand where they are at and what they need emotionally.
Understandably, lots of these health practitioners are feeling distressed and at breaking point, so through a variety of workshops, I’m encouraging them to pour their thoughts, worries and frustrations onto the page. In return they have found clarity, peace and renewed energy from simply starting with writing down one word, one day at a time.
Journaling isn’t magic but it can be transformational, and I have seen this firsthand whilst spending time with NHS staff looking for ways to channel their emotions.
So if you or someone you know works for the NHS, especially those who are feeling the weight of burnout and looking to reconnect their passion for healing, or want to explore new tools for self care, please get in contact - DM me here or email me at hello@easeretreats.com
I’ve recently launched 121 sessions, where quality time is spent diving even deeper into new therapeutic journaling techniques, tailored specifically to their needs.
"The Write Prescription” is an opportunity for anyone in the health sector to learn how journaling can improve their self-esteem, find inner peace and ultimately reduce the risk of burnout. As a gift from me to you, if you work for the NHS, I’d like to invite you to a FREE workshop called "Journal with Ease" this Thursday at 1pm via zoom, a 45minute guided journaling workshop that will give you an insight into therapeutic journaling. So if you’re ready to explore the journaling practice, I’ve got a seat with your name on it.
Until the next time
Take care and stay safe xx
