Hands up who is ready for the ‘back to school’ season and the onset of Autumn? Or are you not quite ready to bid farewell to Summer (if you can even call it a Summer).
Today, I woke up with more palpitations. Not because it’s the 1st of September and the fact I’ve still got to buy some last minute uniform bits n bobs. Because my flipping hormones are all over the place.
I blame the HRT gel. Following the nurse’s advice, this week I’ve gone from applying one pump to two and it’s playing havoc with my heart beat. Is anyone else going through this? Whilst I’m on the topic of HRT gel, do you apply yours in the evening or in the morning? I think I’m doing it all wrong.
Ok, where was I?
Ah yes the change in seasons and am I ready to welcome in Autumn.
Yes and no.
I’m actually sitting on the fence about this, whether or not I’m kidding myself about looking forward to the cosiness of September and October, as truth be told, it just means shorter days, more rain, muddy walks and smelly dogs.
Although, I actually like the thought of sitting by the fire with a book, fairy lights twinkling in every room and a rather large hot chocolate before bed. I think it’s the old romantic in me that craves the warm glow and ‘hygge’ vibes that Autumn has to offer, plus any excuse that it’s ok to get my PJ’s on at 6pm!
In all seriousness, I do feel cheated out of hardly having a Summer. Like those hot balmy August weeks we used to enjoy back in the 80’s. As a child I remember hacking out on my pony late into the evening with no care in the world, sometimes if I was lucky witnessing a shooting star and racing back home before it became pitch black under the Mid Wales sky. Maybe, I need to accept that our sunshine months are now during April/May and not so much in July/August. Here in Wales August is practically a wash out.
Yesterday was wet, windy and chilly and at 6am, but this morning, it was a very mild 15 degrees. No wonder I’m feeling all over the place, the British weather could be to blame and not the HRT gel?!
No matter what the weather is up to, ultimately, the beauty of this transitional period lies in its diversity. I’m going to try and strike more of a balance that suits me this month, how about you? What are your plans for September?
If in doubt of what to do, I have 5 things to consider that might help you embrace the Autumn months. Even if you’re feeling cheated by a lack of Summer and your energy levels are running low, try and apply on of the following activities into your day…
Reflect & Reset - think about what you loved most about Summer and what would you like to do differently during the Autumn months
Connect With Nature - find a new walk, maybe buy a better rain coat, one that actually is waterproof, so no matter how much rain falls, you’re not pissed off about looking like. drenched rat
Declutter Your Space - and treat yourself to some new stationery. I highly recommend Papersmiths for a new journal or fountain pen
Journaling Practice - if you’ve been considering journaling, now is the perfect time. If anything it will help you process your thoughts and set the tone for a more pleasant Autumn.
Embrace Slow Living - try applying a ‘go back to bed’ routine on the weekend. Grab your favourite cuppa, book and journal and stay an extra hour under the duvet.
Note to self: Practice what you preach Tanya!
Until the next time
Take care & stay safe xx
Love this! I love the cosy vision that your post brought up with warm fires, fairy lights and hot chocolate 😍
I resonate with feeling cheated out of summer ... I need the summer months to stock-pile some sunlight energy to see me through the bleak winter days... in all honesty I’m feeling more apprehensive than usual with the dark days approaching ... but I love how you’ve provided some September tips - you’ve inspired me to shop for a new fountain pen 🤩 any excuse to invest in some stationery 😆 and what better way to see me through the winter than curling up in a comfy chair with a journal, new posh pen, candles and a warm fire 🔥 💜
