In the heart of my midlife journey, I’m embarking on a mission - one fuelled by passion, purpose and a deep desire for positive change. I’m in the process of crafting The RAGE Manifesto for midlife women in conjunction with my ‘Rage on a Page’ therapeutic journaling program.
Why?
Because, I believe within our midlife fury, lies the untapped potential for transformation, empowerment and renewed purpose.
I’m learning more about this whilst speaking to likeminded mid-lifers about their struggles, frustrations and sheer boredom of wondering where they belong in today’s society. Most women I speak to are stuck at a crossroads in their life; either due to ‘empty nest syndrome’ or the fact they took early redundancy; some are going through a messy divorce and of course there is the hot topic of being menopausal, quite frankly, leaving us all a tad overwhelmed.
Women are raging, and lots of us are suppressing this emotion, unsure how to deal with it. This can have negative consequences including emotional distress, physical health issues, and unaddressed grievances. I want to recognise and help validate women’s anger, whilst providing a safe space for expression. Over time with the workshops, retreats and programs I host, I will be encouraging open conversations about the complex emotions women experience and how together we can help break down the societal barriers that lead to the suppression of rage.
I’m keen to learn about how you feel about women’s ‘rage’. Do you suffer from anger or bursts of outrage? If yes, what triggers it and how do you deal with it?
My motivation to research women’s rage and advocate for a rage manifesto rises from personal experience, empathy and a sense of social responsibility, as well as the belief for positive change. I’m hoping that my passion and my commitment will be instrumental in raising awareness, fostering understanding and driving progress towards a more equitable and inclusive society.
Do you have any thoughts or opinions about my idea to produce The Rage Manifesto?
Would you be interested in talking to me about how midlife rage affects you? If yes, I’d love to discuss this with you?
If like me, the topic about women’s rage fascinates you but you find there aren’t many women talking about it openly. So you may have read an article, a book or novel that has given voice to women’s rage, if so, please share in the comments.
A few novels I’ve enjoyed reading recently was ‘Whisper Network"‘ by Chandler Baker; ‘Olive Kitteridge’ by one of my favourite authors Elizabeth Strout and ‘Animal’ by Lisa Taddeo.
There must be many more and I’d love to read a few this Autumn.
In the meantime, I’ll leave you with this quote from Maya Angelou
“You should be angry. You must not be bitter. Bitterness is like cancer. It eats upon the host. It doesn’t do anything to the object of its displeasure. So use that anger. You write it. you paint it. You dance it. You march it. You vote it. You do everything about it. you talk it. Never stop talking it”
Until the next time
Take care & stay safe xxx
Ooo love the idea of exploring rage in women more. Anger is an emotion I really struggle to access. The book ‘ Good and Mad, the revolutionary power of women’s anger’ by Rebecca Traister has been on my to be read pile for a while!
I would love it if this extended into grey age. I rage an awful lot about a lot of things and the empowerment journey must just keep going xxx
