Have you ever watched a magpie?

I noticed a couple of them fly by the beach house in awe. These striking birds with their iridescent feathers didn’t just catch my eye for their beauty, but more for their cheekiness, as they’re known for their fascination with shiny objects. They’ll spot something glimmering in the grass and immediately swoop down, captivated by its brilliance, often collecting these treasures and bringing them back to their nests.

I’ve recently realised something about myself: I am, in many ways, a human magpie.
