Have you ever noticed how some people seem to have perfect timing in life? They are always ahead of the curve, grabbing the opportunities, while others (like me) might be a bit late to the party.
Take blackberry picking, for instance…
Whilst I was out early doors with the ridgebacks this morning, looking like a drenched rat; because I obviously didn’t get the weather report memo first thing; I noticed loads of juicy blackberries. The recent heatwave and rain showers must have been the perfect tonic for ripening up the berries, honestly, they looked delicious. The berries were just waiting to be plucked, but I had to pass by empty handed because I didn’t have the right blackberry picking gear! Just a dog poop bag.
On this occasion, I walked by content enjoying the beauty in the bushes, but a little disappointed that I didn’t have a plan to seize the moment.
The thing is, on the day I intentionally go with my blackberry picking bucket, I find the bushes nearly bare. Why? Because there are blackberry picking experts out there that swoop in like clockwork to claim their prize. These people know exactly when those blackberries are at their peak, and they don’t miss a beat.
So what has this experience taught me today? It’s a reminder that timing can make all the difference. Sometimes, opportunities are fleeting, and if we are not prepared, or if we hesitate, we might miss out.
But, it’s ok, I can’t be first to the blackberry picking every year. It’s the fact that I have recognised the moment that they are ripe for picking. Even though I was drooling over the idea of eating homemade apple & blackberry crumble and custard for breakfast.
Note To Self: There are times to act swiftly, times to savour the moment and times to wait patiently for the next opportunity. Embrace your own sense of timing, even if it doesn’t always align with the early birds. Remembering there will always be more berries to pick, just keep the bucket at the ready, stay observant and trust that your timing is right. One day I’ll pick the juiciest blackberries of my life. Failing that, just use the dog poop bags!
Until the next time
Take care & stay safe xxx
