Today I just want to unplug.
I’ve just returned from hiking across one of the largest sand dunes in Europe, lucky me, the dunes are only 30 minutes drive from where I live. The ridgebacks loved it and on a sunny autumn Sunday, it is the most stunning backdrop for a dog walk. Where coast meets country, horses gallop along the beach, lifeguards train and the pure fresh air makes you take a much needed deep breathe.
On the drive home, via the most delightful farm shop, I decided that I’m going to spend some time in the garden, wash the car and stay well away from my digital devices. The challenge to detach myself from the pending notifications is a formidable one, but I know it holds the promise of a restorative experience.
Thank goodness for all the journals and books I have stacked up. I have plenty of publications to read and blank pages to complete, enough to fill a 1000 Sundays! This makes for the perfect sanctuary away from the torrent of digital dialogues.
So I’m going to pause on tapping this keyboard, unplug and grab the jet wash. Don’t you just love the feeling of holding a powerful cleaning tool, especially when all the outdoor surfaces begin to sparkle in the hazy sunshine. At 49 I really do appreciate the simple things in life and all it takes is a little unplugging.
I hope you’re enjoying a peaceful and relaxing Sunday so far. If you care to join me on a digital detox afternoon, you might like to use these prompts for your journaling session later…
At the end of your ‘digital detox’ reflect on how you felt, any positive changes that you noticed? Any impacts on your overall wellbeing? What did you learn from this experience and how could you making your Sunday a regular digital detox day?
Until the next time
Take care & stay safe xx
My dog loves the sand dunes here in Cornwall, we first brought her here a a very small puppy and I swear it is her favourite place x
My car is very much in need of a jet wash, my mind in need of unplugging and my dogs in need of that glorious beach you mention!!! I think it would be a little more than 30 minutes drive for me! I settled for a walk in the woods instead and a visit to my friend 🥰
