Dear Friend
How are you today?
I hope you’re indulging in some quiet time, maybe a cuppa in bed with a chocolate egg for breakfast. If not, maybe later you’ll be able to carve out a sacred space for just you, a moment to pause for thought and indulge in rest and maybe the art of journaling.
If you’re relatively new to following my Substack, and intrigued by the ritual of journaling, here are some real benefits of why I believe therapeutic journaling should be a non-negotiable daily practice:
- A healthy release for feelings and tensions
- A place to advise yourself, clarify goals and make decisions
- A way to nourish yourself with friendship and self acceptance
- A non-threatening place to work out relationships with others and to develop the capacity for intimacy
- A path to self-awareness and self-knowledge
- A place to consider further behaviour
- A technique for focusing your energy on what is important
- A way to organise and expand your time
- A place to find creative solutions to your problems
- A memory aid
- A means of achieving self-identity
- A way to escape the maddening crowds
- A guide to find clarity in the chaos of life
- A device for helping you to discover your path and direction in life
- A means to understand yourself better
- A method to ‘flip the script’ and turn a negative into a positive
- A way to gain perspective on your emotions
- A time in place to forgive yourself
- A place to record meaningful conversations
- A quiet place to relax and rest your busy mind
- A tool to record and understand your dreams
- A mechanism to track your sleep patterns, diet, exercise, moods and desires
- A device for freeing your intuition and imagination
- A trusted platform to test your ideas
- A means of experiencing what it’s like to be human
- A place to celebrate the process of living
- A workbook for creative writing
- A safe space to jot down chapters of your memoir
- A source book for future projects
- A means of discovering joy within the context of your life
And the list goes on.
My journal is my oxygen.
A lifeline.
My therapist.
My best friend.
The real Tanya sits on the page, and over time I’m getting to understand her, trust in her and love all her quirks, dreams and desires.
Journaling is a life long practice.
I have so much more to learn about the health and wellbeing benefits of therapeutic journaling.
I am more humble, real and empathetic because I make time to journal every single day.
My mission is to help as many people as possible, particularly women, to adopt a consistent journaling habit, one word, one day at a time.
To make full use of journaling, you need to forget all the requirements and restrictions you have probably been taught about writing. If you’d like to know more about how you can use your journal to not just escape from life, but to live it more fully and deeply, don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
In the meantime, here are a few therapeutic journaling prompts to guide your journaling if the mood takes you later today…
1. Reflect on and describe a fleeting thought or feeling that passed through your mind today.
2. Write down a single word that captures your current emotional state. Explore the meaning behind this word and how it resonates with your present situation.
3. Choose a single object or image that caught your attention today. Reflect on why it resonated with you and what it represents in your life.
I hope these prompts bring some clarity to your day and a renewed sense of purpose. Happy Easter and happy journaling!
Until the next time
Take care and stay safe. xx
About me… I’m Tanya Lynch, a mother, a ridgeback owner and the founder of Ease Retreats. I love what I do, collaborating with authors and creatives, hosting retreats in beautiful venues across the UK. I’m also a therapeutic journaling coach and through my program Rage on a Page, I help midlife women channel their emotions into something more positive and creative in less than 60 days. Each Thursday I host an online journaling club called Journal with Ease and it’s free for paid subscribers to attend. If you have any questions about the benefits of therapeutic journaling, please reach out and connect. I’m usually on a beach walking the dogs, hosting retreats or hanging out here on Substack.
Serendipity!! I am currently sat in bed with a coffee (after being rudely awoken too early on Easter Monday by my elderly labrador…) I've just written in my journal and then read your post 💫
Lovely to read about everything that journaling gives you and brings to your life - I can feel the passion through your words!
And I love the prompts - I'm going to save these to do this week 💖
Hope you had a lovely day x
