Oh my, I am SO late to the page today. I’ve never Substacked past 3pm. Ah well, better late than never eh. My excuse is well worth the delay…
I feel like I’ve just walked out of a “Whitney” pop music video. I am high on life. (So apologies if my writing doesn’t read well or even flow). Please pass me my RaRa skirt, my hair crimpers and a pair of neon leg warmers, because I’ve just had the best fix of 80’s music ever! Isn’t there something truly magical about the power of music to transport us back in time? Today, I took to the open road from Cardiff to Oxford, to meet a fellow Substacker
- an all round fabulous woman, whom I’ve known for over a year, but never met in real life, until today. It was the perfect day for a drive. The sky was a brilliant bright blue, the sunshine was warm and persistent, whilst the 80’s tunes literally flooded my ears. Talk about a journey back down memory lane, each beat and melody seemed to unlock a floodgate of nostalgia. Bananarama, Five Star, Guns n Roses, Wham, Duran Duran, Denise Williams, Madonna, you name it, all the 80’s greatest bands instantly whisked me back to my neon disco days.
I haven’t cranked up the volume like that in years. And why not? I wondered. Because I love how the music washes over me, as if I was reliving those moments all over again. The carefree days of my youth and the exhilarating energy of the 80’s literally pulsed through every note. What made me smile, was that I ran out of road miles to listen to all 100 tracks. So roll on tomorrow morning, when I’ll pick up where I left off, and listen to the remainder 40 tracks on the album - although I might need to provide ear protectors for the ridgebacks.
But today wasn’t just about the music. It was a day filled with meaningful connections. As I mentioned earlier, I met up with Nicola, an ease retreat client, turned Substack buddy, turned forever friend - exploring bookshops, admiring the architecture, navigating the crazy cyclists and indulging in afternoon tea - it couldn’t have been more perfect. I had the best time and it was a much needed adventure.
In a world where the pace can sometimes feel relentless, today served as a much needed tonic for my soul. Its days like these that remind me of the simple joys in life, the beauty in real life connection and the power of music to uplift and rejuvenate. Roll on April, as I’ll be meeting up with my new wonderful buddy Nicola and a few more Substack friends, as we’ve booked to attend the
weekend workshop in London. Not one for wishing my life away, but I literally cannot wait. I have a good feeling that 2024 will be the year that IRL events ruled!I hope you’ve had a fabulous Friday!
Until the next time
Take care and stay safe xxx
Such a great day, thank you 😘🥰
