Isn’t it so interesting how our senses can draw us into a world of fascination and comfort? For me, that world is intricately tied to candles, particularly ones carrying a distinctly masculine scent - OUD. What about you? Are you hypnotised by Oud?
The deep sensual fragrance of oud is steeped in history and spirituality, maybe that’s why it holds an allure that transcends into the ordinary for me.
Oud’s reputation precedes itself, as it’s not merely a scent but a spiritual essence renowned for its supposedly psychoactive properties. It’s said to guide one’s spiritual journey, fostering inner peace, heightening consciousness and even balancing emotions. No wonder I’m magnetised to this fragrance.
The idea that a scent can evoke such profound experiences has totally intrigued me. Mainly because I’ve always found solace, positivity and an elevated sense of awareness when I light my deep in richness and texture candles.
One of my oud candles is lit right now as I write. It totally sets the mood I need, so I can get into a creative flow. My room is quite dark, my flat white is still steaming across my screen, and I feel as though I’m being warmly cocooned in a comfort blanket. Which is much needed after getting totally drenched with the ridgebacks earlier.
My addiction to candles bearing this fragrance led me on a quest, exploring various brands and options. Among my collection, ‘The Gun Room’ candle from Sloane Home stands as a favourite, resonating with its unique blend. Jo Molone’s ‘Oud & Bergamot’ is another indulgence, weaving a delightful tapestry of scents across the room. Last but not least, a new discovery of mine is from Calon - a welsh brand that champions seasonal fragrances. Most recently, my favourite is the ‘Nadolig’ candle (welsh for Christmas). I mean who needs a real Christmas tree when one can light a candle that’s filled with such festive cheer.
Moreover, it’s not just about the scent, but the look of the candle, that grabs my attention. There’s something so captivating about a candle encapsulated in a black or charcoal grey glass, excluding an aura of mystery and depth, a marriage made in heaven for the essence of oud itself.
Reflecting on my passion, I can’t help wonder if this fondness for the masculine scents, especially oud, is a common thread among others. It feels like a journey many might embark on, seeking not just a fragrance, but a spiritual companion in their daily lives. As for you, I’m curious, in this season of transition and festive hubbub, which candle scent do you find yourself drawn to? I’ll leave the links to the candles I’ve mentioned below, and I’m not being paid to promote these delightful products. Although I’d happily accept one as a gift from Santa, hint hint!
Until the next time
Take care & stay safe xx

One of my intentions is to burn more candles this year which I have already started doing, lighting one in my office every day. I have loads of them... but am ashamed to say I haven't lit them as I don't want to spoil them. How daft is that? I think there is a subconscious belief there too that things will run out - so by lighting them I am practicing abundance 🌻 Love the look of the Calon ones - so many gorgeous sounding smells. Do you have a favourite?
Jo Malone Oud and Bergamot candle is my absolute favourite. The cologne is delightful too!
