The sun is beaming. The ground is solid under foot. It’s minus 2 degrees here in Wales and my Ridgebacks are jumping for joy. Acting more like kangaroos than dogs. It’s like they put on this ballet performance, almost pirouetting across the frozen fields. It’s enchanting to watch and melts my heart to watch their happy faces look back at me, checking I’m still there.
Recently the challenges that come with being a dog owner of two big Ridgebacks, has taken its toll on me. So much so I’ve wanted to share my experiences and reach out to others who might be going through the same experience.
Together stronger and all that jazz
Thinking that, just maybe, there was one other person going through the same struggles as me
At times I’ve felt as though it was only me with big dog troubles.
As everywhere I look, people post about their wonderful lives, highlighting only the happy moments. Stupidly, I got it in my head that everyone else was enjoying a stress free life with their dog - but deep down I know this isn’t the case
Everyone with dogs at some point goes through some type of trauma or drama. That’s life with a dog - they can be great companions with no issues, but at times, they can be super challenging
So today whilst out walking I had an epiphany.
I realised I have a bigger story to share
Which will lead to more interesting conversations
With a wider audience that will hopefully want to connect with me
I want to broaden the topic about a Life With A. Dog. I want my Substack to not just be about the day to day aspects of my life with a dog. As important as they are and will remain...
I want to write about the adventures I go on with my Ridgebacks - mainly travelling along the coast of Wales
I’m going to share all the great places you can take your dog in Wales. The secret gems, the secluded beaches and dog friendly establishments. The cool places to stay, eat and drink. Introducing you to all the wonderful places you can visit with your four legged companion
I’m a huge ambassador for Wales. I’ve lived here all my life. I’ve visited or stayed in every corner of this beautiful country. My small business involves hosting writing retreats with best selling authors, we stay in gorgeous beach abodes along the coast and sometimes stay in converted barns hidden up in the mountains. So I’ve seen and stayed in 100’s of places - ones you’re just going to love!
I want to share these amazing places with you because they bring me and my dogs such joy
What do you think?
Have you visited Wales before?
Is it on your wish list of places to visit?
Would you like to know more about Wales and all the cool places to take a dog?
I’m looking forward to showcasing life with a dog around Wales.
Isn’t is amazing how one simple dog walk can open your heart and mind to new adventures. By being in nature with your dogs with no other soul about can really allow your creativity to flow
I owe this moment of clarity and self awareness to my dogs. They not only teach me. They do some much more and I’ll be forever grateful.
They need me
They love me
They make me more adventurous
They travel with me
They motivate me
They encourage me
They believe in me
They complete me
PAWS FOR THOUGHT:
Next time you’re out walking your dog, ask yourself - what one thing about owning dogs has enriched your life this week.
Until the next, take care and stay safe
