Have you ever stopped and wondered about the meaning of ‘human being’?
When was the last time you were just ‘being’ rather than always ‘doing’?
On far too many occasions I wake up thinking, what do I have to ‘DO’ today? Rather than could I just take a moment to just ‘BE’?
Human doing often takes precedence over the essential and often overlooked human being. We find ourselves engulfed in a cycle of activity, driven by the demands of productivity, achievement and ambition. It’s this relentless pursuit, it makes me want to pause and actually just ‘be’. My mum always used to say to me “Tanya, you’ll meet yourself coming back in a minute, if you don’t slow down”. And of course she was so right.
The pressure to fill the day with tasks and our minds with thoughts of productivity, even overshadow the simple yet transformative act of ‘being’ present in the moment.
I’m always pondering over the act of ‘human doing’ as opposed to ‘human being’ especially today, as this weekend I am hosting therapeutic journaling workshops at a weekend retreat with 50 health practitioners. I’ll be talking to the GP’s about the benefits of therapeutic journaling for themselves and their patients. Plus, I want to discuss the art of ‘being’ and how it should enhance our lives, balance our experiences and deepen our connection with ourselves.
I’ve been contemplating how, by embracing the essence of ‘human being’ we can find a sense of purpose, inner peace and a sense of ease. I do believe that human being is at the heart of our existence, if only we paused for thought now and again to realise this, because in the midst of doing, there is immense beauty in the act of being.
Note To Self: Amidst the flurry of human doing, don’t forget the serenity found in human being.
Until the next time
Take care & stay safe xx
Lovely post! So useful to remember. The journaling for GPs sounds wonderful too. x
