Dear Friend
How are you feeling today?
Good I hope.
I’m writing this three part newsletter series mid week, because today as you read this newsletter I’ll be busy being host to my guests at the ‘Creative Unblocking’ weekend retreat with the one and only Emma Gannon.
In the meantime, I’m keen to share a topic that I’m super passionate about and that is the using therapeutic journalling as a non-negotiable wellbeing practice to help channel emotions into something more positive and creative.
Today is the second of three newsletters on this topic, so if you’re intrigued to learn more about how to transform rage and anger into power, then please read on. Ooh and if you love prompts, there are some brilliant ones waiting for you at the end of this newsletter.
Rage as a Catalyst
In my humble opinion, I believe that our rage is one of the most potent forces for positive change that we possess. When we learn to respect it, to listen to it, to channel its intensity - that’s when the real magic happens.
Rage can be the catalyst that propels us out of complacency and into courageous action. It can sharpen our vision, steel our resolve, and inspire us to demand more from ourselves and the worlds around us. And when we bring that kind of focused, righteous energy to our writing, the results are nothing sort of transformative.
"I write out of rage. I write to keep from going crazy. I write because I am driven to say the things that seem to need saying." - Gloria Naylor
That’s why in my Rage on a Page workshops, we don’t just explore rage in the abstract. We dive headfirst into the mess of it, using our pens as tools to excavate our deepest wounds, our uncompromising values, and our wildest dreams. And from this raw authenticity springs an empowerment that is truly awe-inspiring to witness. It’s a very liberating experience.
Here are a few prompts that you may find useful to help channel your rage on to a page, please help yourself…
Write a bold declaration of the changes you want to see in the world, or your local community. What injustices ignite your fury? What better future are you fighting for?
Look back on a time when you channeled your rage productively. What did that experience teach you about your capacity for transformation?
imagine your life 5 years from now, after fully embracing the power of your rage. What does that version of yourself look like? What has changed?
Examine the systems, structures, or cultural norms that perpetuate the issues you care about? Where can you focus your rage to drive the most impact?
When your anger feels unproductive or overwhelming, what practices help you recenter and refocus that energy?
I learnt this lesson last year, that rage is not a weakness, but a superpower waiting to be unleashed. When you learn to channel this intense energy, there’s no limit to what you can achieve. Your anger can sharpen your vision, steel your resolve, and inspire you to demand more - from yourself and the world around you.
I urge you to embrace your rage, let it fuel your progress, and use it as a catalyst for the life you crave. Rage On!
If you’d like to read more about whether or not journalling about rage is good therapy, I found an article in ‘The Stylist’ quite interesting - Rage Journalling. Although, I’d love the journalist Amerley Ollennu who wrote the article, to join one of my workshops and then write about the benefits of ‘Rage on a Page’.
Until the next time
Take care and stay safe x
