Dear Friend
How are you feeling today?
Good I hope.
I’m writing this three part newsletter series mid week, because today as you read this newsletter I’ll be knee deep in last minute prep for my ‘Creative Unblocking’ weekend retreat with the one and only
. I’ve been looking forward to hosting this retreat all year, and I promise to share some ‘behind the scenes’ stories and photographs from the retreat with you next week.In the meantime, I’m keen to share a topic that I’m super passionate about and that is the using therapeutic journalling as a non-negotiable wellbeing practice to help channel emotions into something more positive and creative.
Today is the first of three newsletters on this topic, so if you’re intrigued to learn more about how to transform rage and anger into power, then please read on. Ooh and there are some brilliant journalling prompts waiting for you at the end of this newsletter.
“Befriending Rage”
If you’ve been following my newsletter for some time, you’ll know I’m on a mission to encourage as many women as possible to ‘Rage on a Page’. Why? Because rage is a powerful emotion - one that many of us have been taught to fear, deny or dampen down. But I do believe that our rage is a gift. That is has the potential to become our greatest ally in creating a life we crave.
Now more than ever, the world needs our righteous anger. The injustices, the heartbreaks and the sheer exhaustion of it all - it’s valid, it’s understandable and its begging to be expressed. Yes it is! And when you learn to channel that energy, something profound happens. Your rage all of a sudden becomes your fuel, your motivation becomes a catalyst for change. My rage actually fuelled the start of my business, and it helped me leave a toxic relationship.
That’s why I’m so passionate about sharing techniques, writing exercises and journalling prompts from my ‘Rage on a Page’ workshops. because I’ve seen how the simple act of putting pen to paper can be the key to unlocking our big dreams, our uncompromising strength and audacious visions, and hope for a better future.
Here are a few prompts that you may find useful to help channel your rage on to a page, please help yourself…
Make a list of all the things that make your blood boil. Don’t edit, just let your writing flow raw and unfiltered.
Write a letter to your rage, acknowledging its presence and its importance in your life. thank it for protecting you, for feeling your conviction, oh and for refusing to let you stay small!
Describe what your rage is trying to tell you. What unmet needs or unspoken truths is it revealing. Top tip, try and listen closely to its wisdom.
Describe your rage using vivid sensory details. I know this sounds a bit strange, but go with it, what colour is your rage? What texture does it have? What does it sound like? Try and bring your rage to life on the page.
Take at least two minutes to trace your rage back to its roots. When did you first feel this way? What experiences shaped the way you relate yo this emotion?
Even though I try and practice what I preach, striving to live my life with ease, there are times when my rage gets triggered. Oh the joys of midlife :)
I try and remind myself that rage is not a liability to be hidden away, but a precious gift waiting to be unwrapped. I’ve met lots of women who have learnt how to approach this fierce, fiery emotion with curiosity and compassion and thats when something profound begins to shift within them. Over time anger stops being a source of shame or overwhelm, and instead becomes your greatest ally, a brilliant compass and more than anything fuel for positive change.
I dare you to lean into your rage, to honour it and let it reveal your unmet needs and unspoken truths that are crying out to be expressed. Your story matters. Your rage matters. And I can’t wait to witness the magic that unfolds when you set this force of nature free on the page.
If you’d like a back to basics guide on how to start a more consistent journalling practice, check out some of my previous newsletters. I like you’ll like this one Your Journal, Your Rules. Hopefully you’ll find my therapeutic journalling advice useful. If you have any questions about how to adopt a regular journalling habit, especially if you are time poor, struggle with what to write, and in fear of someone reading your journal, then please leave a message in the comments.
Until the next time
Take care and stay safe x

"Rage on a Page' isn't just a program; it's a community of strong, supportive women. Through the ups and downs of midlife, this journaling series has been my anchor. I've found courage and camaraderie here."
I think these prompts are just what I neede this week. I will definitely make a list of all the things I am angry about in my journal today. Politics, men, the declining environment, stupid rules and more. 😅😬
Thanks and happy weekend! I have the workshop is a success for everyone.
