Have you ever pondered the curious phenomenon of leap years and the extra day we are blessed with? It fascinates me, this quirk in our calendar system that seems almost too peculiar to be true. And yet, every four years, we find ourselves gifted with an additional 24 hours. One extra day to play with, to contemplate and to make our own.
It was only because I was looking to schedule a meeting in for next Thursday, that I realised the date would be the 29th February. Ooh so a bonus day! Then I thought, do I really want to be sat working on my laptop, answering emails, dealing with life admin on this extra special day? Hell no!
I’ve never felt this way about a leap year before. I’ve never thought about savouring a day, especially a gifted one. Maybe it has something to do with the fact I’ll be turning a fabulous 50 later this year, maybe now I’ve learnt to adult, I try and make every day matter. To be gifted one extra day is quite extraordinary, don’t you agree? What are your thoughts on this extra day? Do you even think about? Do you embrace the extra day?
I know, more often than not in the past, I’ve been guilty of taking my days for granted. Which is ridiculous. Surely every day is a gift. So why don’t we make the most of every day, as though it was our last? To be gifted with an extra day, an extra 24 hours, I definitely want to grab it and do something wonderful with it.
ONE DAY more, to do something with it, to go out and create memories, to capture the moments, to feel alive, to be grateful, to be happy, to not have a care in the world, to explore, quite possibly with a destination unknown. Ooh I’m rather excited now. If only I would grab every day with this same energy, to be grateful to be alive. I’m going to journal about this feeling later. The fact I should be more grateful about the simple things in life, and especially about my special extra ONE DAY.
It’s reminded me that I need to seize the day, embrace spontaneity and make the most of this fleeting gift of time. Whether it’s pursuing a long held dream, spending quality time with my loved ones or simply indulging in a moment of self care, the possibilities are endless. Do you have any plans for the 29th February?
Then it got me thinking, what about those born on February 29th, the rare leap day babies? How do they navigate the peculiarities of having a birthday that comes around only once every four years? It’s a question that has always made me curious. Were you born on this date? When and how do you celebrate? Do you mark your birthday on the 28th February or the 1st March when it isn’t a leap year? Please do share your story!
I’m determined to make this leap year extra special and truly memorable. After all, why not embrace the chance to do something different? As I count down the days, I invite you to join me in planning something truly special. Let’s make the most of our bonus day. Carpe Diem!
Until the next time
Take care and stay safe xx
Thank you for the nudge!
