What day is it?!
All I know is that it’s almost 2024, and if like me, you’re probably being bombarded with endless ‘SALE NOW ON’ promotions, new gym membership discounts and a ‘how to guide for setting New Year intentions’.
But it’s all too much! Leaving lots of us feeling overwhelmed.
How do you approach a New Year?
Do you have it all planned out, and are you excited about a fresh new start?
Is it me or have you noticed that social media has become one massive advertising board. I’ve tried really hard to avoid doom scrolling over the past few days. I’ve opted for longer walks with the ridgebacks, decluttering the loft, but my favourite way to avoid social media, is when I’m sat with my journal. I’d much rather doodle, mind map and write about what I’m thinking and how I’m feeling than lose an hour in the social media abyss.
What about you? Did you manage to avoid social media platforms and force yourself to leave your phone in car for an hour over Christmas? Failing that, did you journal much during the festivities? Did you manage to find a cosy corner away from the maddening crowds to journal or read?
Be honest, have you ever found yourself tangled in the web of excuses that hinder your decision to start journaling?
Here’s the thing… lack of time, uncertain what to write, and the looming fear of prying eyes upon your private thoughts - these are the top 3 barricades that often stand in the way of a consistent journaling practice.
But fear not!
There’s a key that unlocks the barriers and liberates your pen, allowing your thoughts to flow freely on the pages. The solution isn’t a magical creation of more time, or a repository for your journal. Instead, it’s a shift in perspective and a toolkit of techniques that can help you dismantle these excuses brick by brick.
I know because for years I used these excuses over and over again. Until one day, I wrestled with the page, I chose to journal more and spend less time over on social media and I found a way that my journaling would remain private.
So imagine having a journaling practice that fits seamlessly into your day, one that requires just a few minutes of your time. Envision prompts and exercises that breathe life onto the page, sparking your creativity effortlessly. And picture a safe haven for your thoughts, shielded from prying eyes yet readily accessible whenever you need it.
The solution is within reach.
Once you understand how to navigate these barriers, you’ll look back wishing you had embarked on a daily journaling practice years ago.
My wish for you in 2024, is that you’ll learn how to journal like nobody is reading. That you’ll replace 10 mins of social media doom scrolling for quality time with pen and paper. I dearly hope you find your journaling mojo in 2024 and if you struggle you know where to find me.
I’ve broken all the journaling rules, I’ve listened to the experts, I’ve learnt from the research, I’ve consistently journaled for over 1000 days without missing a day and it’s changed my life for the better.
I am living proof that adopting a daily journaling practice will be a transformational experience for you. I know I keep going on and on about the wellbeing benefits of therapeutic journaling, but it’s my mission to help you journal more regularly. I have learnt the hard way so you don’t have to.
Until the next time
Take care and stay safe xx
