In recent times, there’s been a delightful trend emerging - more men are embracing the practice of therapeutic journaling. As someone who’s long advocated for the therapeutic benefits of putting pen to paper, it’s so heartening to witness this shift. In a world often dictated by the digital screens and quick taps on the keyboard, the act of journaling with good old-fashioned pen and paper holds a unique allure. It’s a practice that allows for deeper introspection, genuine connection with one’s thoughts and a sense of grounding in the present moment.
One brand that’s been making waves in this arena is The Mind Journal dedicated to providing men with a platform for self-reflection and personal growth through journaling. The journals, with their exquisite craftsmanship and thoughtful design, beckon to be filled with the musings and reflections of a mindful man. They look so beautiful and well laid out, I’m considering buying one just for me. Well in my humble opinion, a girl can never own too many journals.
Through my work as a therapeutic journaling coach, I’m meeting more men, both young and old who are starting to journal. Some have been telling me that they are discovering a profound impact on their mental and personal development. I find myself encouraged by the prospect of a more introspective and emotionally attuned society, especially as I have sons who are curious my the work I do.
My life has been influenced by strong male characters, my grandpa, my father, my partner, my brother and both my sons have always been an inspiration. They all have something in common, all wonderful gentlemen, quietly creative and who’s stories I’ve always been captivated by. In their own unique way, they have beautiful hand writing and a creative spark that has always captured my attention. I love receiving notes from my Dad, he leaves little heartfelt messages tucked into my gifts, and I in return leave a love note hidden in his notebook or secretly in one of his coat pockets. I can’t say I’ve ever seen any of my male relatives journal, but I do know deep down they would write about their story, if given the opportunity.
So here’s to the men and the boys who choose to pick up a pen and let their thoughts flow onto the page of a journal - may your journeys of self discovery be as enriching as they are empowering.
Until the next time
Take care and stay safe xx
About me… I’m Tanya Lynch, a mother, a ridgeback owner and the founder of Ease Retreats. I love what I do, collaborating with authors and creatives, hosting retreats in beautiful venues across the UK. I’m also a therapeutic journaling coach and through my program ”Rage on a Page”, I help midlife women channel their emotions into something more positive and creative. Each Thursday I host an online journaling club called Journal with Ease and it’s free for paid subscribers to attend. If you need me, I’m usually on a beach walking the dogs.
