So the working week is almost drawing to a close, hmmm she thinks, as a self employed lady, I’m not sure I understand the meaning of the term ‘working week’. My working week can be anything from 5 to 7 days a week. But that is all my own fault!
End of the working week - does that mean it’s the weekend? But then what does that even mean? Weekend? End to the week? But what if you don’t have an end to your week?! Does it mean stop work as it’s time for leisure and/or relaxation? Is it the opportunity to take a staycation? Or if like me, does the weekend mean… time for being the family taxi, the cook, the cleaner, the laundry maid, the dog walker, the grocery shopper, and the list goes on. I saw a few people over on Instagram celebrating the fact it’s Friday and almost the weekend, alluding to the fact it’s time to PARTY! Wait what, is that what people do on the weekend?!
Joking aside, I couldn’t think of anything worse than having to PARTY. What about you? I’ve lost all ability to get excited about going out, having to get party attire on, grooming one’s body and hair, checking if handbag and shoes match, planning whether to eat or opt for a liquid diet. To have to PARTY on the weekend to me = EXHAUSTION!
Oh well, maybe my partying days are on hold for a while. Right now I’m a grumpy mid-lifer who would rather stay at home, cosy in loungewear, candles on in every room, plenty of chocolates, maybe a cheeky glass of pinot noir, oh and obviously sat reading a book or 3, with no fixed plans to party.
Ultimately, the weekend of a midlife woman can be a beautifully diverse landscape. I know for many of you it will be a time for reflection and self-care, for some it will be time for adventure and exploration or if like me, you’ll be planning for the blissful absence of plans. I just wanted to say as the weekend approaches, remember it’s a canvas for you to paint, and how you choose to fill it will be a celebration of your unique character and ability to do what the hell you like.
Oh and good on you if you do decide to go out and paint the town red!
Here are the latest three books I picked up in a charity shop earlier this week, let me know if you’ve read any of them. I totally judged these books by their cover - aren’t they all just beautiful.
Until the next time
Take care & stay safe xx
Yes, my perfect weekend is one with no fixed plans. Funnily enough, I’ve just written something about that to be posted in the morning!
Happy weekend of whatever it turns out to be!
Party invitations fill me with dread! I much prefer a more intimate event such as a dinner or coffee date.
My problem is that the week days don’t really feel that different to weekends a lot of the time. I know I need to make more of an effort to differentiate x
