I’m in the mood for a weekend rendezvous with my journal.
Would you like to join me??
This is my invitation for you to pause, reflect over your week and embark on a journey of self discovery. I love the simple act of sitting down with my first coffee of the morning, my fountain pen and journal. As it gives me the opportunity to delve into the depths of my creativity. My journal has become my trusted confidant, a mirror reflecting back to me the intricacies of my life. Usually highlighting what I’m struggling with, a reminder of what I’ve accomplished, and the dreams I’m yet to make a reality.
Therapeutic journaling is a lot different from general journaling, and it’s far from woo woo. It is a deliberate and powerful practice that enables us to harness the benefits of introspection and self-expression, offering a host of advantages for our mental, emotional and even physical wellbeing.
If you’re up for it, here are some therapeutic journaling prompts to help you dive deeper into your emotions and creativity, enjoy…
Tapping Into Writer’s Flow
What emotions and experiences do you associate with the moments when you’re in a state of writer’s flow? How can you intentionally recreate those emotional states when starting a creative project or overcoming a writing challenge? Are there specific environments, habits or rituals that promote good emotions and conditions of flow for you?
Dealing With Procrastination
When you procrastinate, what emotions are usually behind this behaviour and how does it affect your creative process? Are there specific triggers or patterns that lead to your procrastination and how do they connect with your emotions? Can you think of times when you’ve successfully overcome procrastination, and what strategies were most effective in shifting your emotions and productivity?
Harnessing Self-doubt
What kind of self-doubt or negative self talk often emerges when you’re struggling with your creative work and what emotions fuel these thoughts? How can you reframe self-doubt to see it as a source of growth and improvement? Can you draw on past experiences when you confronted self-doubt and discovered insights or creative breakthroughs?
These prompts and questions should help you better understand your emotional responses in your creative and writing situations. I hope they enable you to channel your emotions, and inspire you to overcome writing challenges and unlock your creative potential.
Let me know if you’ve found these useful. I’m intrigued to know if you use journaling prompts to flex your writing muscle and how often you use them. I know some of you have attended a couple of my guided journaling workshops, so I hope you can grab a bit of quality time with your journal this weekend.
Until the next time
Take care & stay safe xx
