I’m in a daydreaming kind of mood.
Because today I’ll be surviving on 3 hours sleep.
There is something that vibrates through the walls of my house at night.
It’s driving me insane.
I keep thinking it’s a broken boiler. But boiler in my house was serviced last week and my neighbours assure me that their boiler doesn’t seem to have any issues.
It’s like there is something vibrating deep underground. Right under my house.
I feel like I’m losing my marbles because nobody else can hear it or feel the vibrations I’m feeling. Could I be losing the plot? Is it all in my head? Well, whatever it is, it’s like Chinese torture.
At 4am watching the minutes tick over so slowly, I ponder over what could be causing the vibrations, what if it’s something to do with the water works, what if the gas pipes are faulty, but where does one start to investigate?! Who do I call? And if I’m the only one who can feel the vibrations what use is it even when I find someone to fix it? Blimey at this rate, I’ll be putting in a call to Ghostbusters!!
So rather than overthink the situation and dread it being bedtime, I’ve decided to go with the vibrations, almost use it as a soother. Allow my body and my heartbeat to sync with the sound waves, to try and lean into the tempo of the vibrations rather than fight against them. I know I sound like I’ve lost my sanity right??
Note to self at 7am - if in doubt head to the beach.
Thank goodness for sunrises, my beach walk was a balm for my soul, the Ridgebacks led and I followed, mesmerised by their silhouettes prancing across the shoreline. As I walked closer to the sun, using its rays as fuel to pull me forward, I felt like I could lay down on the cold, damp sand and daydream the morning away. It was a peaceful moment and I had no care in the world. It was as though my tiredness left my body and I no longer felt the heaviness of exhaustion.
This made me think about the act of daydreaming and how it often takes a backseat to productivity and practicality. You see, daydreaming isn’t just a frivolous pastime, it can be a powerful tool for nourishing our minds, rejuvenating our spirits and tapping into the limitless potential of our imagination.
When we allow ourselves to daydream, we create space for our minds to wander freely, unencumbered by the constraints of reality. When I daydream, I’m able to explore new ideas, envision alternate realities and reconnect with my deepest desires and aspirations. On days like today, when I’m pretty exhausted, I can daydream for hours. It helps me find refuge from the stress of insomnia and allows me to immerse myself into a state of tranquility. I guess being sat by the shoreline watching the sun rise, with not a soul about, has such therapeutic benefits.
I dare you to daydream more this week. Try and carve out a moment of quiet contemplation and allow your mind to wander wherever it pleases. When was the last time you took some time out to daydream? And have you ever considered the possibility of actually living your daydream? What would that look like? Where would you be? How would it make you feel?
I daydream about my house on the beach, one that is big enough to accommodate guests, where I can host more creative and wellbeing retreats. It would stand proud overlooking the bay, basking in golden sunshine, welcoming souls in search of a life with ease. I’m confident that one day I will be living my daydream.
To help you lean into the art of daydreaming, I’ve created a few journaling prompts to help guide you…
1. Daydream Diary - set aside time each day to jot down your daydreams in a journal. Describe the scenes, characters and emotions that arise in your reverie. Notice any recurring themes or patterns.
2. Visualise Your Ideal Day - close your eyes and imagine a perfect day unfolding before you. Where are you? What are you doing? Who are you with? Write about this day in vivid details, focusing on how it makes you feel.
3. Explore Your Deepest Desires - reflect on the dreams and aspirations that reside in the depths of your soul. What do you long for most in life? What are you passionate about? Write freely about your hopes and dreams, no matter how big or small.
“Lost in the labyrinth of my daydreams, I find myself wandering in a world of infinite wonder and boundless beauty”
Until the next time
Take care and stay safe xxx
I think my ideal day would include going for a dog walk with you on that gorgeous beach and then sitting on the beach house veranda putting the world to rights with a cup of tea x
