It’s been a great start to my 7 day escapism to Wild West Wales. I arrived to blue skies and brilliant sunshine, leaving the storms and city lights way behind me. As soon as I placed my feet over the beach house threshold, the first thing I did, was stack the fire with wood, then I was all prepped for a cosy evening with good food, fine wine and rather handsome company.
One of the highlights of staying in my favourite beach abode is the fact there is no light pollution. Here in the sheltered bay of Tresaith, the black sky of night makes for the perfect comfort blanket. A much needed backdrop, as recently I’ve been really sleep deprived, but last night I slept like a baby. Thankfully there was no alarm clock or errands to run this Saturday morning, apart from the ridgebacks needing an early breakfast at 545am, not ideal, but I did manage to squeeze in an extra 3 hrs of shut eye.
At 10am, once the caffeine had well and truly kicked in, it was up and out for a long hike near Cardigan Bay. Walking the coastline was a joy like no other, a simple yet profound pleasure that connected me to the rhythm of the natural world. As I meandered aimlessly, I found myself surrendering to the tranquil allure of the shoreline, where the ebb and flow of the tides become a gentle guide for my thoughts and my feet.
On a day like to today, this stretch of beach is teeming with life. In the distance there was the exuberant barks of dogs of all shapes and sizes, the laughter of families squeezing the last few drops out of Welsh half term, and young couples walking hand in hand beaming with love.
Newport Sands, my temporary coastal haven, seems to possess its own microclimate, cocooning this village in a serene world of its own. It was a very mild 12 degrees, the welcomed vitamin D on my face was a nice added bonus. By the way, if you ever plan to plan a staycation in this part of the world, please don’t hesitate to ask me for recommendations on where to eat, drink and sleep. I highly recommend my good friends Spot & Charlie who own www.seaandslate.co.uk they are the real holiday cottage experts in the area.
Having only arrived 24 hrs ago, I’m already smitten by the beauty and unhurried pace of life that defines this place. I would seriously move to live here in a heartbeat. I feel as though time itself slows down here, matching the rhythm of the waves, and I can’t help but wish for the impossible… for time to stand still in this idyllic coastal village.
With every sandy step that I take today and over the next 6 days, I’ll be reminded of the preciousness of the ‘present moment’ and the sheer wonder of this little corner of West Wales. I’m sure I’ll have many moments to capture and endless memories to cherish. I’m now off to watch the rugby, it’s Wales v The Barbarians, which is the perfect excuse to pour myself a cheeky glass of Cabernet Sauvignon, so ‘cheers’ to living life with ease in Wild West Wales.
Until the next time
Take care & stay safe xx
