There is something undeniably magical about the bond between a human and their four-legged friend, isn’t there? It’s a connection that goes beyond words, spoken in the silent language of love and loyalty. As I sit here next to Obi, my beloved 4 year old male Ridgeback, I’m reminded of the simple joy that comes from looking into those soulful eyes, feeling his warm prescience by my side.
It is literally pouring it down outside my window, Obi’s anticipation is palpable. Despite his dislike for the rain, his eagerness to venture out for our morning walk is unmistakable. The moment I take my gaze away from him, he paws me and nuzzles his cold wet nose against my face, he’s asking the question we both know the answer to… are we seriously going out in that?
“With her dog, a girl discovers the purest form of love—a love that is unwavering, unconditional, and eternally cherished”
It is laughable. The conversation between a woman and her dog. We know exactly what one is thinking. That neither of us wish to go out and get drenched, again. But it's in moments like these that I always feel a sense of joy. There is something about the undeniable enthusiasm of dogs that reminds me to embrace the present moment, regardless of the weather or any other external factors. For me it’s a reminder to find joy in the simple things, whether it’s the wag of his tail, the feel of his wet nose against my cheek or the warmth of his unconditional love.
He has my back and I have his.
So as I brave the rain and head out to the beach, I’ll be cherishing every moment spent with Obi, and not forgetting the ninja Ridgeback that is Nya. Because in their eyes, I see nothing but love, unwavering loyalty and the promise of endless adventures together. And really what more could a girl ask for?
Until the next time
Take care and stay safe xx
If you love dogs as much as I do, you might be interested in reading Niall’s Substack 10,000 Dogs one man on a mission to rescue and save the lives of 10,000 street dogs. He launched his first memoir “HOPE” last year, it’s an extraordinary story and I highly recommend it!
