Are you constantly telling yourself that you don’t have enough time to journal? It’s a common refrain, especially among the women I meet who are juggling work, family and various commitments.
You’re not alone.
But what if I told you that you might have more time than you think?
Just take a moment now to think about it - how much time do you spend doom scrolling through social media or watching videos on your phone each day? Those mindless minutes add up, and they could be spent on a more meaningful activity instead.
So I invite you to challenge the notion that there’s never enough time for journaling. Instead, I invite you to explore how you can make time for this valuable practice in your daily life.
Here are my 3 practical tips to help you carve out time for journaling
1. Schedule It
Treat journaling like any other important appointment by scheduling it into your day. Whether it’s first thing in the morning, during your lunch break, or before bed, designate a specific time for journaling and stick to it consistently.
2. Use “Micro-Moments”
Instead of waiting for large chunks of free time, take advantage of small pockets of time throughout your day. Whether it’s waiting for your coffee to brew, sitting on public transport, or when your waiting for your HRT gel to dry, use these “micro-moments” to jot down quick thoughts or reflections in your journal. Failing that I dare you to find the time to literally write down just ONE WORD a day.
3. Combine Activities
Look for opportunities to integrate journaling into activities you already do. For example, after brushing your teeth, you can journal while enjoying your morning coffee, just before you open your emails, or as a wind-down activity before going to sleep. By combining journaling with other tasks or rituals, you can seamlessly incorporate it into your routine without adding extra time.
Oh and take your journal with you EVERYWHERE! Even if you don’t have a spare minute, acknowledge that you journal is by your side. Dr tara Swart a neuroscientist who wrote The Source mentions, even if you don’t have the energy to do your daily yoga practice just take your cuppa and sit on the mat for 5 minutes. The same goes for journaling. Just hold the journal if nothing else. For those who love stationery, I bet if you treated yourself to a nice new journal and fountain pen, who’d look forward to using it more often that not.

Hopefully I’ve inspired you to journal today, if so, you might find these journaling prompts useful…
1. Reflect on your current daily routine and identify moments where you could incorporate journaling. How can you adjust your schedule to prioritise self-care and reflection?
2. Think about the activities your engage in daily, such as scrolling through social media. How could you repurpose some of the time for journaling instead?
3. Consider the benefits of journaling for your overall wellbeing. How might dedicating time to this practice enhance your mental, emotional and physical health?
4.Reflect on the barriers and excuses you’ve used in the past to avoid journaling. What beliefs or attitudes might be holding you back from making time for self love?
5. Consider the impact of consistent journaling on your self esteem and confidence levels. How might regularly expressing your thoughts and feelings in a journal contribute to a greater sense of self-worth?
Feel free to choose one or more of these prompts to explore in your journaling practice. Remember, there are no right or wrong answers - simply allow yourself to be honest and authentic in your reflections. Happy journaling!
