Thought for the day: Expect the unexpected
Discovering my ex husbands boxers on my bedroom floor, 8 years after being divorced!
How is this even possible?
Thank goodness my partner has a brilliant sense of humour
My youngest son came home on Monday stressing about the fact he had run out of boxers at his Dads house. I said “Sonny you have lots of boxers, they are probably in the laundry at your Dads or at Granny’s, maybe there are some on your Dad’s boat, they will be somewhere.” He said “Mum, it’s so ridiculous, I had to go to school today wearing Dad’s boxers” I thought bless him, but really it’s no hardship, he is 13 and taller than me, I’m sure for one day wearing his Dads boxers wouldn’t cause too much mayhem.
The days passed. I continued on with the relentless piles of laundry. Taking the fresh linen upstairs, placing mens and boys clothes neatly in each of their bedrooms. Gosh, even writing that sentence makes me think, why is it always me arranging the laundry?! Don’t get me started on that topic! At least they put their own pants and socks away.
Archie my eldest, almost 20 years old, passed me a pair of clean boxers, saying “Mum these aren’t mine, you keep putting Wills (my partner) pants in my room”. Oops sorry I mumbled. Then this morning Will was standing searching for his usual pair of boxers, whispering at 6am “Tan you’re always putting Archie’s boxers in my pile of clothes”. I was like “ Oh man, just leave them out on the bed, I’ll sort it out later”.
As I passed him, I looked at him, he looked at me with a quizzing smirk and said “Well Tan, if these pants don’t belong to me or Archie, who’s boxers are they?!” I was dumbfounded. Who’s were they and how did they get into the house. Then the penny dropped, I chuckled to myself trying to explain the situation to Will. “Erm, well you won’t believe this, but Sonny had to wear Jim’s boxers on Monday, so yeah, they are Jim’s boxers, and yes they are on our bedroom floor, oops!
This discovery was a reminder of life’s unpredictable twits and turns. A stark reminder that even after divorce and the passage of time, the past can resurface in surprising ways.
It’s also a testament to the complexity of human connections and the way they can continue to influence our present, even when we think we’ve moved on. My partners good-natured response to the situation underscores the importance of humour and flexibility in navigating life’s quirks. It also highlights the value of maintaining amicable relationships with our ex’s, because life has a way of weaving together the past and the present in a way we may never anticipate.
I must say, I did find it amusing, all thanks to my cheeky and adorable partner that always sees the funny side to life!
Until the next time
Take care & stay safe xx
I agree, we must always try and fine a funny side to things that come up in like - love how you and your partner both laughed about this 💞
