The blackberry pickers are out in force!
Is it early this year? As I don’t want to miss my opportunity of grabbing a pot or 2, my mother in law makes THE best blackberry & apple crumble.
There is something so satisfying about blackberry picking, any fruit picking come to think of it. Maybe it’s the fact it leaves a sense of nostalgia of times fruit picking with my Nanna as a child, that I’ve always loved so much. Although my ridgebacks seem to think it’s a case of one blackberry for me and two each for them. Since when do dogs eat blackberries?!
Blackberries are a true sign that Autumn is well and truly on its way, I don’t know about you, but did you sense, that there was a slight chill in the air this morning. Did we even have a Summer? !
I found myself reflecting on the past Summer days (all 5 of them), as if they didn’t quite make their mind up. But hey isn’t that what life is all about, the constant ebb and flow of change, different seasons, and moments that make us appreciate the transitions.
Whilst out walking, I realised that I’m actually ready for September, does that make me a little crazy?! Perhaps, but it also makes me human, eager for the unknown that lies ahead. And I actually prefer September to January for a fresh start, it must be down to the ‘back to school’ feeling that I crave so much. Any excuse for a new pencil case filled with a rainbow of stationery and a brand new journal. What about you?
Oh and I keep forgetting that it’s a Bank Holiday weekend. I have no BIG plans, thank goodness. I read earlier, that many of the train operators are striking today, so we are to expect over 14 million cars on the road today. Eek! In that case, I shall enjoy diving into a good book, maybe cook a Sunday roast and basically do sod all.
Roll on Autumn I say, promises of cosy nights, books n blankets, and the chance to really slow down. At 49, i’ve come to realise that the ‘hygge’ vibes suit me down to the ground.
In other news… This Autumn I am collaborating with the ever so talented Caroline Donahue - author, writing coach & Secret Library podcast host. We shall be hosting a writing day retreat on Friday 13th October in Oxfordshire.
